Why Do I Need To Take The High School Core Curriculum?
 
The core curriculum is the most important component of the Regent’s admissions framework. Research shows that students who take college prep courses double their odds of success in college.

1...........Earth Science, Environmental Science, Physical Science, General Science, Biology II, Chemistry II, Physics, Physics II, of Physics for Technology (one unit)
 
1...........American History
 
1...........World History, Western Civilization, or World Geography
 
1...........Civics and Free Enterprise (one unit combined) or Civics (one unit, non-public)
 
1...........Fine Arts Survey (or substitute two units of performance courses in music, dance and/or theater; or two units of visual art; or substitute two units of studio art; or substitute one unit of an elective among the other subjects listed in this core curriculum).
 
 2...........Foreign Language (two units in the same language)
 
1/2.........Computer Science, Computer Literacy, or Business Computer Applications (or substitute an elective course related to computers approved by the state including either one unit of Computer/Technology Applications, Computer Architecture, Computer  Science I or II, Computer Systems and Networking I or II, Multimedia Preductions or Independent Study in Technology Applications; or a 1/2 unit as an elective from the other subjects listed in this core curriculum).
 
16.5 Total Core Curriculum Units
To receive the following awards these requirements must be met:
              
Tech Award= 2.5 core GPA and 17+ ACT score.  This is a 2 yr. award at a technical college.
 
Opportunity Award= 2.5 core GPA and 20 ACT score.
 
Performance Award= 3.5 GPA (core) and 23 ACT score.  Tuition+ $400 per year
 
Honors Award= 3.5 core GPA and 27 ACT score.  Tuition + $800 per year.
**Beginning with the graduating class of 2008 and thereafter, an additional unit of advanced math or advanced science will be required from among the following:
 
Earth Science, Environmental Science, Physical Science, Biology II, Chemistry II, Physics II or Physics for Technology, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus, or an approved advanced math substitute
