Catholic Interparochial School of Pointe Coupee is a private co-educational institution with grades PreK-12. The high school holds a student population of 328 in grades 7-12. The institution was founded in 1904 and now boasts over 2,000 graduates. It is located in the city of New Roads, Louisiana, a picturesque little community nestled alongside beautiful False River. The city is some 30 miles northwest of Baton Rouge, the Louisiana state capital.
Catholic of Pointe Coupee was founded by the sisters of Saint Joseph. The school started on a lot near the present day school. In the 1960’s the present schools were built. In the 80’s the new junior high was added, and all of the students were housed on the same campus.
The parish of Pointe Coupee is a sprawling rural area generally bounded to the South by U. S. Highway 190 West, to the East by the Mississippi River and to the West by the Atchafalaya River. It boasts rich farmland that produces a diversified crop base, but it is probably known best for its sugar cane fields. Additionally, the region offers sportsmen a wide range of hunting and fishing opportunities. It is also a culturally-diverse region heavily influenced by Cajun traditions.
The student body also reflects the diversity of the region. Over half of the students come from small farming communities that dot the landscape around New Roads. Annually, the number–and financial value–of scholarships received by CHSPC graduates places the school among the leading educational institutions in the Greater Baton Rouge Area. We are also number one in the parish for a number of students who graduate as TOPS qualifiers. Our curriculum includes all courses necessary for our students to attend the university of their choice. In addition, honors and advanced placement courses are offered in various subjects, and over 90% of the graduates go on to college.
Many of the Catholic High graduates return to Pointe Coupee upon completion of their college careers and make tremendous positive contributions to the area.
The school's facilities include two modern computer labs and an up to date Chemistry and Biology Laboratory. The high school computer lab houses a collection of 26 Pentium II machines which are loaded with the latest office suite software, as well as desktop publishing programs.
In addition to its exemplary academics, the school also boasts a full-fledged athletic program for boys and girls beginning in the 5th grade. The sports teams have enjoyed considerable success, especially in recent years.
